Who We Are

Alverstoke Evangelical Church is a church in Gosport that consists of people who follow Jesus Christ. Visitors are always welcome and are often present having come along because of an invite, or out of curiosity. We meet to learn more about Jesus and encourage each other in following him in our day to day lives. We are closely linked with Solent Evangelical Church.

We call ourselves an ‘evangelical’ church because of our trust in the relevance and truthfulness of the Bible. Evangel, an ancient word, means good news. This is the sort of news that might interrupt the TV programmes to tell us something - only on our screens this usually only happens for bad news! Rather, the Evangel is momentously good news, and it is worth interrupting our lives to hear it!

This news is at the core of the Bible’s message, and it centres on the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s from this that we get our name - evangelicals - people concerned about good news.
